Schools closed due to snow and blizzard. The first county in which classes with physical presence are suspended

The capital and 12 counties are affected by an orange bad weather code starting tonight. ANM predicts that in certain areas it will snow heavily and a consistent layer of snow will be deposited.

The orange code for snow and blizzard is valid until 12 noon on Wednesday, forecasters announced.

The Giurgiu county authorities are the first to announce special measures due to the weather, after ANM reported that Romania will go through a “severe episode” of winter.

Giurgiu is among the areas where it will snow heavily and a layer of snow of 20-50 centimeters will be deposited, according to ANM.

Also, the wind will have strong intensifications, with gusts of 60-85 km/h, causing the snow to drift and reducing visibility below 50 meters.

Decisions taken by the Giurgiu authorities

“During the meeting of the Giurgiu County Committee for Emergency Situations, which took place today, the decision was adopted to suspend classes with physical presence in all educational units in Giurgiu County, which will be held online on February 18 this year”, stated the Giurgiu County authorities on Tuesday, according to News.ro.

The committee also ordered the intensification of patrolling on the road sectors affected by the blizzard, in order to prevent accidents.

“Dialysis patients and pregnant women who, due to dangerous weather phenomena, risk being stuck in isolated areas, will be transported in time to the sanitary units in the territory and admitted to the specialized sections. At the level of the Giurgiu County Police Inspectorate, the traffic on the roads in Giurgiu county will be monitored. At the level of the Giurgiu Water Management System, the evolution of the levels and flows on the watercourses in Giurgiu county, respectively, the forces, means and materials will be prepared for operative interventions in order to limit and reduce the negative effects of floods”, are the measures adopted for the period when the county is under the Orange Code warning.

Another measure aims to identify vulnerable people so that, in the event of an emergency, they can be evacuated.

The crews of Apa Service SA Giurgiu, Rețele Electrice Muntenia SA Giurgiu will be supplemented to ensure sufficient intervention teams in the event of damage to the supply networks.

The CJSU also decided to establish a permanent service at town halls, for the transmission of information on the evolution of dangerous phenomena, their effects, measures taken at the county level.
