President Nicușor Dan listed, in the speech at the National Day reception at the Cotroceni Palace, a series of “truths about Romania”, in which he mentioned the shortcomings of the Romanian state. Thus, the head of state said that Romania remains a corrupt country even if not at the same level as 20 years ago, and Romanians live worse than last year, although better than 20 years ago.

In the speech delivered in the Union Hall, in front of the guests at the reception, he mentioned the shortcomings of the Romanian state today, among which he mentioned corruption, the country's trade deficit, the state of education and the poor results of the money invested in the health system. But for each of these, he also evoked the achievements of the last 20 years, which made Romanians live better than two decades ago.

The main statements of President Nicușor Dan:

“We're celebrating a historic moment where a generational dream has come true, and that means that we didn't come from nowhere, that there was a society that channeled its energy for an ideal, and that it forces us to live up to what they did.

We live worse than last year, but much better than 20 years ago and than many people in neighboring countries. Romania is a corrupt country and the Romanians are right when they say that they do not see a will of the state to fight corruption. However, we are less corrupt than 20 years ago. All the corruption during this whole period held us back, we could be much better. In recent months, we have not seen corruption at the top of the Romanian state.

We have many areas of excellence in education, but overall the education system is weak or very weak and this will create problems for us in the future. A year ago Romania canceled elections and that created a doubt about democracy in Romania and among Romanians and among our partners.

We are members of the EU and thus Romania received 100 billion euros, but there were cases when its voice was not heard inside the Union, as was the case with Schengen when our country was wronged.

We have 5 million Romanians who left Romania, but they are a huge potential for us if we have a good relationship with them. We have an outdated administration that is out of step with society.

All the things I said are true about Romania. The easiest thing for a politician is to take 2 or 3, make slogans for them and parade with them. Unfortunately, our public space is polluted by this overflow of slogans, some causing howls or screams. Let's all lower our voice, let's discuss with calmness and balance, let's calmly discuss the problems that society has. I invite you to listen to each other, beyond the inevitable noise we will find a common ground. We live in a time when only nations that manage to have an inner solidarity manage to progress. I invite you all to continue believing in Romania.”
