The general mayor of the capital, Ciprian Ciucu, promised to come “with a solution” for the situation at the Bucharest Transport Company (STB), which he said has a current debt of 1.6 billion lei.

The mayor said that tonight he is studying “the organization chart and the “management processes” of STB”.

“In this case, “management processes” is a euphemism for the absurd placed somewhere between the conformism of Ionescu's “Rhinoceros” and the oppressive and impressionistic bureaucracy of Kafka. Everything for a lot of money, huge, astronomical sums!”, wrote Ciprian Ciucu, on Monday evening, in a post on Facebook.

He stated that in STB there are “about 250 economists and about 200 chief executives”, while “about 200 people work in the entire Presidential Administration”.

“STB's current debt is 1.6 billion lei, and the public transport service costs us approx. 1.7 billion lei annually. The budget of the municipality of Brașov is 1.7 billion. With schools, hospitals, waste, parks, streets, investments, tourism, local police, etc. So, now, the STB has ended up costing us as much as two municipalities of Brașov. The average budget of the sectors in Bucharest is approx. 2.7 – 3 billion lei. STB consumes as much as a sector town hall…”, said the official ironically.

“New meetings will follow”

The General Council, recalled Ciprian Ciucu, rejected the audit he proposed.

“Because PSD/Piedone/AUR rejected the audit I requested, I compensate by personally working on their data, as I receive it. Unfortunately, as the classic says, I have enough professional experience (including evaluations) to analyze the data I manage to get my hands on”, said the mayor of the Capital.

He stated that “there will be new meetings with the management of STB, with the unions”.

“Then we will have to approve a budget restructuring/rebalancing plan (…). I will come to you with a solution. But it will be important that it is also supported by the General Council, whose work I have to do! I remind you that STB has its own Board of Directors, appointed by members of the General Council! What does that CA do besides collect allowances?!?”, Mayor Ciprian Ciucu also declared.

On January 29, the General Council rejected the proposals of Ciprian Ciucu to have increased the price of trips with STB and to have done an external audit of the company.
