VIDEO. The moment a bear is chased away with a shovel. “Look at him, look at him, let's go after him!”. Authorities warn: “That's not brave! That's not how it's done”

The Vâlceni gendarmes appeal to the population to avoid approaching or drive wild animals away if they get in their way, after a few days ago a bear approached a household in Călimăneşti, and its owners tried to remove it themselves, writes Agerpres.

According to the representatives of the Vâlcea Gendarmerie, the people announced the presence of the bear via 112, but did not wait for the intervention crews to arrive in the area and got very close to the animal, the incident being filmed with a mobile phone by one of those present at the scene

The images show how one man chases the animal and tries to hit it with a shovel, while another urges him to hit the animal in the head.

“Although the bear was trying to run and move away from the area, its pursuit could provoke an attack. The man approached just a few meters from the bear and tried to hit it with the shovel. In such situations, the animal's behavior can change in a fraction of a second,” said the spokesperson of the Vâlcea County Gendarmerie Inspectorate (IJJ), George Tacăle.

The incident did not result in casualties or damage, but the gendarmes warn that such situations can be extremely dangerous and advise the population not to do the same if they encounter wild animals.

“If you notice a bear near your home, keep your distance! Do not approach, do not try to hit the animal, take shelter in a safe place and immediately call the single emergency number 112. In such a situation, courage does not mean approaching the bear. Courage means making the right decision”, added the representative of IJJ Vâlcea.

In the last few days, several calls were received in Vâlcea that signaled the presence of bears near inhabited areas, the last more serious incident being last week, in Boişoara commune, when a bear attacked and killed a calf on a pasture where he was grazing with the animals and a local resident, who escaped unharmed after the dogs that accompanied him drove the wild animal into the forest.
