Earlier this month, CNN reported that Trump wants an airport near Washington and a train station in New York to be named after him.

According to CNN, Trump told Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer that he was willing to unlock billions of dollars for a major infrastructure project, but in exchange, Schumer would have to agree to renaming Dulles International Airport near Washington and Penn Station in New York.

Gateway project on the brink of bankruptcy

The $16 billion Gateway project will connect New York and New Jersey with a new tunnel under the Hudson River. The federal government has committed to providing USD 11 billion for this purpose. But in the fall, the Trump administration froze federal funding. Work on the project was suspended last week. On Friday, the government complied with the court's decision and released $30 million in financing for this purpose, with a total of $205 million to be transferred in the coming days.

On Monday, Trump wrote on his own social media platform, Truth Social, that he opposed Gateway, which he described as a “waste” because, as he argued, its implementation costs will be much higher than expected. He estimated that the project would be “financially disastrous for the region.”

He also assured that it was not he who proposed that the main junction station in New York be named after him. The president wrote that it was an initiative of certain politicians and heads of construction trade unions. “It's just another fake news!” – skwitował.
