“I have seen speculations in the media, but Romania's observer status is not invented by us, but confirmed by the organizers. It involves participation in meetings and works, but without the right to vote. It is essential to be here, because we have access to inside information and discussions. The President of Romania will sit at the same table with President Trump and other leaders, heads of state and government, members and non-members of this initiative”. explained Andrei Muraru, on Monday evening, at Antena 3 CNN.

The diplomat also said that the level of access of observers may vary depending on the decision of US President Donald Trump. He also said that a private Trump-Dan meeting was not set during the negotiations.

“The president's visit is dedicated exclusively to the Peace Council meeting and a bilateral visit was not requested on its side”, said Andrei Muraru, adding the discussions about a visit to the White House, on another date, “I'm in progress”.

“We want this to be a settled one, with several points on the agenda, and not a visit related to a meeting that complicates the calendar and logistics. (…) Obviously, we are in discussions with the White House almost weekly about the visit we anticipate of the president. I tell you that the perspectives of the president's visit exist, because every president of Romania has had the opportunity of at least one visit to the White House in the last 30 years. This dynamic has dialogue is given by the very substance of the partnership agenda, we also contribute from here in Washington, precisely because I have the experience of such visits. Such a visit will take place, it is announced.”stated the Romanian ambassador.

The decision announced by the President of Romania to participate in the Peace Council meeting in Washington, following the invitation sent by Donald Trump, provoked many reactions in the public space, from congratulations to ironies, frustrations and resignation. The Peace Council promoted by US President Donald Trump will hold the first meeting of leaders on February 19.
