How the tragedy happened in Vaslui where two brothers perished in the waters of a reservoir. Desperate, the children's father jumped into the ice-cold water after them
Two students, a 14-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, lost their lives on Saturday evening, after falling into the Tăcuta reservoir, in Vaslui county. Although the authorities managed to recover the children's bodies, doctors could do nothing to save them.

The incident occurred in the Protopopești dam area, Tăcuta commune. The children were part of a larger group of carolers and, according to witnesses, they approached the lake and tried to cross it on the ice. It broke, and the two fell into the water.
According to the information, the boy was the first to fall into the lake, and the girl tried to save him, but she also ended up in the water. Seeing what happened, the other children in the group ran to the village to notify the adults and ask for help.
The call to 112 was made at 5:35 p.m., after witnesses noticed clothes floating on the surface of the lake and asked the authorities for help.
The father tried to save them
The children's father also jumped into the icy water in a desperate attempt to save them, but failed. The man was pulled from the water, requiring medical attention at the scene and was later transported to the hospital, where he remained hospitalized with hypothermia.
According to relatives, the father raised his children alone, who were also under the supervision of a social worker.
Crews from the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations intervened at the scene, with the L200 search-rescue vehicle and an inflatable boat. After the search, the rescuers managed to recover the bodies of the two children from the lake.
The two students were described by those who knew them as quiet children who did well in school. The local community is deeply affected by the tragedy, and the investigation by the authorities continues to establish exactly the circumstances in which the accident occurred.
