A train derailed in the Alps, rescue operations are underway

A train derailed on Monday near the town of Goppenstein, in the southern part of the Swiss Alps, local police reported on Platform X. A rescue operation is underway.


“Goppenstein, 7 a.m., a train derailed. Probably injured, rescue operation underway. More information soon,” the police of the canton of Valais, where the accident occurred, reported on X.
According to information from the British tabloid “The Sun”, about 80 people were traveling by train.
The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) announced that due to the avalanche, rail traffic “is suspended between Goppenstein and Brig” and this situation is expected to last at least until Tuesday morning. However, it is not known to what extent this is related to the train derailment.
