A 26-year-old Romanian without a driver's license and with a criminal record was arrested on Thursday, February 12, by the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Mejorada del Campo, after he committed an armed robbery in a supermarket and tried to escape from the authorities in a dangerous pursuit that left behind eight damaged vehicles.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. when the police were alerted to the robbery at a supermarket on Calle Castilla, a busy thoroughfare in the city. Immediately after receiving the notification, the authorities were able to quickly identify the suspect's vehicle, a white Citroën C4, and organized an operation in collaboration with the Civil Guard. According to El Mundo, the suspect was wearing a hood and sunglasses to mask his identity.
Once he realized he was being followed, the man pulled out a gun and fled in his car, causing real chaos in the streets of Mejorada del Campo, hitting eight vehicles, some of which were parked and some of which were in traffic.
His race ended on Miguel Hernández Street, where his car was stuck after crashing into another vehicle. At that moment, the Romanian abandoned the car and tried to run away on foot, but he was quickly intercepted and detained by the police.
After searching the vehicle, authorities discovered €840 in cash, the cash register stolen from the supermarket, a white substance later identified as cocaine, clothing used in the armed robbery and a firearm.
