What does the new single wage law promise? Dragoş Pîslaru: “To bring balance. Inequities are now greater than they were in 2017”

The Minister of European Investments and Projects said on Thursday that the success of the new single wage law depends on a projectt “good and realistic”, pointing out that the version adopted in 2017 did not meet these criteria. Dragoş Pîslaru, stated that the current process also benefits from the support of the World Bank.
Pîslaru recalled that, in 2016, the Ministry of Finance, led by Anca Dragu, was working on a version of the law estimated at 32 billion euros, considered feasible and scheduled to be implemented by 2024. Later, however, the Parliament took the initiative and increased the budgetary impact to 55 billion euros, according to News.ro.
“Then I drew attention, both to me and to the Ministry of Finance, that such a project cannot be put into practice”the minister said on Thursday.
“It was found that the implementation is not feasible”
Dragoş Pîslaru added that the government installed in 2017 went ahead with this option, but the implementation was blocked precisely because of the lack of sustainability. In addition, the differential application of salary scales generated new imbalances in the system.
“It was not implemented because it was found that it was not feasible to implement, and the moment you started pushing occupational families differently, one from the other, you created inequities that are now greater than they were in 2017“, explained the official.

The minister emphasized that there is a difference between the way a project is prepared and the political decision to carry it through to the end. Regarding the new law currently being worked on at the Ministry of Labor, he says that he is waiting for the final form, but he is optimistic.
“We are all very serious, and the support of the World Bank is an important element. I think we will propose a project that will bring balance, reduce inequities and provide predictability in public administration”declared Pîslaru.
