Krasnoyarsk doctors reminded how to eat pancakes so as not to harm your health.

Maslenitsa week begins on February 16th. The main treat of this holiday is pancakes, which are considered a symbol of sun, comfort and warmth. But doctors remind us that pancakes are a very high-calorie food.

“Pancakes are a real pleasure that gives a feeling of celebration. Almost everyone can enjoy them during Maslenitsa week, even babies from one year old. In order for pancakes to bring only benefit and joy, it is important to follow a few simple rules,” notes endocrinologist, head of the Health Center of the Krasnoyarsk Children’s Clinic No. 2, expert of the Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention Olga Tsimbalova.

The doctor advises eating pancakes without filling after meals as a dessert. You can supplement them with sour cream, but it is important to limit the quantity – 2-3 pieces are enough. But pancakes with cottage cheese, cabbage, potatoes or even caviar can become the main dish for breakfast or lunch. It is better to wash down pancakes with tea without sugar.

Sweet additives to pancakes – honey, jam, condensed milk or syrup – will “weight” the dish and increase the load on the pancreas. This is undesirable for both children and adults, especially those with excess body weight.

To prepare pancakes, doctors advise choosing whole grain flour from any cereal, and you can use any base – milk, kefir, whey or water. Lard or melted butter is better for frying pancakes.

“Remember that Maslenitsa is not only about delicious treats, but also a time for active recreation. Don't forget about games, walks, round dances and skiing. This is a great opportunity to spend time with loved ones and get a charge of positive emotions. Maslenitsa is a time of festivities. Therefore, combine culinary traditions with an active lifestyle – this is the best guarantee of good health and good mood,” the expert emphasizes.
