Critics fear that his agenda may undermine scientific standards in institutions such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Supporters, in turn, see his actions as a long-awaited break with the influence of the pharmaceutical lobby.
Personnel reshuffles
Earlier this week, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that Chris Klomp, deputy administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will serve as general counsel and assume oversight of all operations at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Kyle Diamantas and Grace Graham were also promoted to senior advisers at the FDA. They will both retain their current roles: Diamantas as deputy commissioner for human food and Graham as deputy commissioner for policy, legislation and international affairs.
John Brooks will also become a senior advisor to CMS while retaining his position as director of policy and regulatory affairs.
Now another change is coming – this time at the very top of the Ministry of Health.
