The declaration was made by the deputy Fedir Venislavski, a member of the Commission for National Security, Defense and Information within the Supreme Rada, in a briefing, according to a UKRINForm correspondent.

“We have adopted the appropriate legislative modification and allowed Ukrainian citizens to sign service contracts after the age of 60, according to a pretty strict procedure. This was done to prevent abuse and to avoid people looking for certain benefits after 60 years.”the deputy said.

According to him, the main purpose is to attract rare specialists needed in the security and defense sector, especially old Soviet armament experts.

“For example, there are unique Soviet weapons that can be used, but there are no specialists because they have not been used for 10-20 years. Only former military and officers have the necessary experience. They can sign a contract and serve.”explained Venislavski.

He stressed that there will be no mandatory mobilization for people over 60 years old.

“The age of 60 is the limit at which a person is radiated from the military records and is no longer obliged to the military service. Only with their voluntary consent, only on the basis of a contract, can be served. There can be no forced mobilization – this contravenes the law on military obligations and military service”the deputy pointed out.

He added that the decision to sign a contract with people over 60 will be taken at the highest level.

“This will be taken at the level of Ukraine's armed forces – the supreme commander, the General Staff, the commanders of the categories and the branches of troops. This approach minimizes the risk of abuses – for example, the situations in which someone wants to obtain a status or a pension supplement without a real intention to serve.”said Venislavski.

According to Ukrinform, the Supreme Rada adopted a law on contract -based military service for the persons who have exceeded the age limit for military service.
