The next version of iOS mainly includes fixes related to iPhone security, but the list also includes some more practical new features. The most interesting ones are related to… the greater opening of the Apple ecosystem to other devices.
Here are the most interesting of them:
- iPhone can push notifications to third-party devices — e.g. for Xiaomi or Samsung smartwatches
- Unlocked Proximity pairing of iPhone with third-party devices — any wireless headphones can be connected in the same way as AirPods
- An option has appeared hide the exact location from the mobile operator — when we activate it, only the general area we are in is visible (the option is currently unavailable in Poland and only on a few devices with a C1 and C1X modem)
- The system's Weather section can use new wallpapers
- Shared a new tool to facilitate the transition from iOS to Android – data migration to another ecosystem includes photos, contacts and selected applications
- Standard news RCS now use end-to-end encryption
The update will be gradually installed on all devices supporting iOS 26. If we want to do it right away, you can force the update now – just go to Settings, General menu, select Update and click on “Update now” or “Update tonight”. Installing the new version means having to download approximately 4.5 GB of data – so it is worth making sure that we are connected to WiFi, unless we have an unlimited data package.
