“It depends on what conditions.” Nicușor Dan, about Romania's participation in the Peace Council: Romania could participate as an observer
President Nicușor Dan said on Thursday that Romania is still in talks with the American side regarding participation in the Peace Council meeting, organized by Donald Trump in Washington, on February 19.

“We are still in discussions with the American side. The subject of the discussion is what can be the status of a country like Romania, which, at this moment, can only be an observer. What is the format of the discussion and what is the role of the observers in this meeting. Depending on the answer of the American side we will decide whether to go or not. The decision will be announced after the end of the discussions”. said Nicușor Dan, before the informal meeting of the European Council.
Asked if Romania prefers not to participate, if the role of observers is secondary, the head of state emphasized the importance of participation.
“It depends, it depends, because, as you know, the situation in Gaza is important for Europe, Romania traditionally has some relations with Israel and the Arab countries in the area, so it is important for us to be there, but it depends on what conditions. (…) Everything is in a continuous dynamic. We will probably make a final decision this week,” stated Nicușor Dan.
President Nicușor Dan participates on Thursday, February 12, in the informal meeting of the European Council, convened by President António Costa, at Alden Biesen Castle in the Kingdom of Belgium.
