Spears sold the rights to all her songs to a famous label. Multi-million dollar deal value announced

The deal was signed on December 30, 2025. The parties did not disclose the details of the sale and the exact cost of the catalog and declined to comment.

Previously, the Primary Wave label acquired the rights to songs by deceased American artists Prince and Whitney Houston.

The BBC noted that the sale of the catalog took place against the backdrop of a general trend in which world-famous musicians are monetizing their archives – Canadian singer Justin Bieber, American singer Justin Timberlake and Colombian artist Shakira have recently sold their catalogs, among others.

Context

Primary Wave was founded in 2006 by music producer Lawrence Mestel after purchasing American singer Kurt Cobain's 50% share of Nirvana's catalogue.

The BBC notes that Spears is one of the performers whose material sells the most. Since her debut in 1999, she has released nine studio albums. Her records have sold more than 150 million copies.

In January 2024, the artist stated that she would “never return to the music industry.” Her latest song is a duet with British performer Elton John, which premiered in 2022.
