The harbor in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory received an official name in honor of the Norwegian shipbuilder

In Taimyr, the name of the harbor Colin-Archer was officially established. An entry about the pier appeared in the State Catalog of Geographical Names, the regional department of Rosreestr reported. Until this point, the name was used only informally.

As sibnovosti.ru writes, the name is given in honor of the Norwegian shipbuilder Colin Archer, whose ships were famous for their reliability in harsh Arctic conditions. This place has a long history: at the end of the 19th century, the famous polar explorer Fridtjof Nansen recommended the harbor for the wintering of ships. And in 1900, Eduard Toll’s expedition on the ship “Zarya” actually wintered here.

Rosreestr explained that the official consolidation of a long-established name will help avoid confusion on maps, documents and navigation materials. This is especially important for Arctic expeditions and scientific trips.
