Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț was left without a president after being relegated from the 2nd League. Former defender Angelo Alistar, who played, among others, at Ceahlăul, Universitatea Craiova, Dinamo Bucharest or Hapoel Petah Tikva, left the head of the German club.
Alistar announced his resignation as president after the last match of the season on Saturday, when the Germans lost at home, 0-3, to Metalului Buzău. Thus, the group from the foot of Mount Pietricica remained with 20 points and ended the championship in 7th place in Group A, a direct relegation place.
Honorable resignation
“I submitted my honorable resignation. Ceahlău was and will remain my home. I will also help in the future if I am requested, but I will no longer occupy any management position at the club” Alistar wrote on Ceahlău's Facebook page.
The one who was team-manager at Ceahlăul in the 2024-2025 season and president in the current season added: “A sad day for all those who love the team. Probably an even sadder day for those who wanted us abolished. We still managed to take the championship to the end. Ceahlău didn't die and he didn't surrender and that's the most important thing.
What happened to the team can be a lesson for everyone”.

“It's important that Ceahlău exists”
Angelo Alistar says that the German group can continue in the 3rd League, relying on young players from Piatra Neamț: “The most important thing is that Ceahlăul still exists and at any time it can be rebuilt and return to the higher leagues. A project focused on the Center for children and juniors and on the promotion of local players, I think it represents the best project”.
This year, Ceahlăul has already co-opted several juniors into the senior team. Thus, alongside the experienced Marc, Barna, Geani Crețu or Matiș, under the command of coach Valentin Avădanei, juniors such as Tudor Alistar, the president's son, Patrichi, D. Popovici, I. Anton, Ilioaia or Mahu Moisii appeared, all being used with Metalul Buzău.
Ironies to the authorities in Piatra Neamț
Alistar threw arrows at the authorities in Piatra Neamț, who did not help the team at all. Being insolvent, the German group survived this season primarily thanks to Anton Măzărianu: “First of all, thanks to the players and the technical team.
Thank you to all those who stayed with us, especially after the problems and difficulties appeared. Thank you to the few sponsors who were with us. I would have liked to thank the local authorities as well, but unfortunately I don't have what for”.
