“Has anti-family attributes.” In Russia they propose to repurpose Valentine's Day

State Duma deputy Tatyana Butskaya, a member of the Committee for the Protection of Family, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood, proposed changing the format of the February 14 celebration. According to her, the holiday could be made “Love Day” or “Teddy Toy Day” instead of mentioning St. Valentine, the TASS propaganda agency reported on February 8.

“We can make February 14, without mentioning Valentine with its controversial history, a holiday,” the deputy noted.

According to her, this holiday “on the one hand has already taken root in Russia,” but only because there was no similar day for declarations of love.

At the same time, Natalya Moskvitinina, deputy chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on demography, protection of family, children and traditional family values, said that Valentine’s Day is a commercial holiday that came from the West and does not correspond to Russian traditions.

“I don’t see the need to support this holiday, especially at the state level. It came from the West in the 2000s, it was commercialized and marketed – before and after it there were high sales of various attributes associated with anti-family relations,” Moskvitinina said.
