The head of state recalled that on the night of February 7, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine, launching more than 400 drones and almost 40 missiles of various types.
According to Zelensky, the production of these weapons would not be possible without foreign critical components, which the Russians continue to obtain in circumvention of sanctions.
“And it is precisely against such companies – suppliers of components and manufacturers of missiles and drones – that we are introducing new sanctions. I signed the corresponding decisions,” the president said.
The second decree, as Zelensky said, introduced sanctions against the Russian financial sector. The list includes companies through which they pay for the supply of components for the production of Russian missiles and drones, the president indicated.
“Sanctions have also been introduced against structures that support the Russian crypto market and mining. Some of these decisions will be included in the 20th package of sanctions of the European Union, which is already at the final stage,” the head of state added.
The media wrote that the European Union intends to present a new package of sanctions before February 24, the fourth anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
Context
Estonia's annual foreign intelligence report on national security reported last February that China was helping aggressor country Russia produce military drones, becoming a hub for smuggling critical Western components for the Russian military.
In total, in the “Components in Weapons” section on the War&Sanctions portal as of February 2, 5,510 parts were already recorded, found in 189 types of weapons that Russia used against Ukraine.
