Virtual world, real millions – that's how they wanted to deceive NCBiR. The CBA entered into action

The Central Anticorruption Bureau detained the president of the company and a person who was supposed to help him obtain funding from the National Center for Research and Development for a significant improvement of a game for learning English in a virtual world – the CBA press team reported.


The arrests in the investigation into a project worth over PLN 6 million and over PLN 3 million in damage were made by officers of the Rzeszów branch of the CBA on Monday, February 2, in the province. Łódź – according to the team's information on Thursday. During the searches, they also found memory media and documentation that will be used in the investigation.
The proceedings supervised by the Warsaw regional prosecutor's office concern bringing NCBiR to an unfavorable disposal of property of significant value.
A company from Białystok operating in the educational technology sector received funding from the National Center for Research and Development for a project to significantly improve a mobile game for learning English in a virtual world.
According to investigators' findings, in order to obtain a subsidy, the president had to present unreliable documentation regarding the company's actual ability to implement such a project. The investigation shows that the implementation of the project was apparent, and the company concluded fictitious mandate contracts with natural persons to confirm work on it and show the costs.
After charging both people, the prosecutor set bail, banned contacts with people related to the investigation and ordered police supervision – the CBA press team reported. The investigation is developing and further arrests are possible, he noted. (PAP)
