In an official statement posted on the X platform, Tom Rose announced that the decision is effective with immediate effect. “We will no longer maintain contacts or communicate with the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty” – wrote the ambassador. The reason for the decision is – as he noted – “outrageous and unjustified insults towards US President Donald Trump.”
Włodzimierz Czarzasty himself commented on the matter, who also emphasized via the X platform that he was guided by his values when defending Polish soldiers on missions and did not support Donald Trump's candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Marshal of the Sejm also assured that he respects the United States as Poland's key partner, but does not intend to change his position on issues that are fundamental to Poles.
— Respect requires respect. That's all I have to say on this matter – commented Czarzasty during a conversation with journalists in the Sejm.
Donald Tusk comments on the conflict between Włodzimierz Czarzasty and the US ambassador
Prime Minister Donald Tusk also joined the discussion and addressed the US ambassador on the X platform. The head of government emphasized that allies should respect each other and not lecture each other. “At least this is how we understand partnership in Poland,” Tusk wrote.
In turn, the head of the presidential Office of International Policy, Marcin Przydacz, said that the Speaker of the Sejm was unnecessarily causing tension in Polish-American relations.
What did Czarzasty say about Donald Trump?
Czarzasty announced on Monday that he would not support the application to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump, stating that the American leader did not deserve this distinction. The initiative to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump was put forward by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress, Mike Johnson, and the Speaker of the Knesset of the State of Israel, Amir Ochanna, and the Sejm received correspondence on this matter.
He also pointed to the controversy caused by Trump's words about the alleged minor role of allies in Afghanistan. This is about Trump's statement from the end of January, when the US president stated that America never needed NATO's help, and that the Alliance's troops stayed “a little behind” and “a little away from the front line” during the mission in Afghanistan. These words sparked outrage among public opinion and the Polish authorities, including Czarzasty, who recalled that 124 people died in Polish missions abroad. He also considered Trump's statement about the participation of allies, demanding respect for Polish soldiers regardless of alliances, as scandalous.
