The child left alone after his brothers drowned in a stream in Chirpăr, placed in emergency foster care

The brother of the two children who drowned in a stream in the town of Chirpăr, Sibiu county, was taken into emergency foster care, following a court decision, at the proposal of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Sibiu.

The representatives of DGASPC Sibiu announced on Friday that the measure was ordered for the child left in the family, who was taken and placed in a safe environment.
“DGASPC Sibiu informs that, based on a court decision, at the proposal of our institution's specialists, it was decided emergency placement measure for the child left in the family, he was taken in and is safe”the representatives of the Directorate sent, regarding the case in Chirpăr commune, according to News.ro.
According to the cited source, the intervention was necessary after the specialists identified “elements that indicated the existence of a risk situation, being immediate intervention is required for protection physical and emotional integrity of the child“.
Medical, psychological and educational support for the minor
DGASPC Sibiu specified that the minor will benefit from all the necessary services to ensure a harmonious development.

A 6-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother died on February 2, after falling into a stream in the town of Chirpăr, Sibiu county. The medical crews tried to revive the girl, but without success, she was declared dead on the spot. His brother's lifeless body was later found and pulled out of the water.
The family was not in the DGASPC records
Following the tragedy, DGASPC Sibiu carried out complex checks and evaluations, specifying that the family was not previously in the records of the institution and there had been no notifications that would have required an intervention.

Regarding the child left in the family, we specify that the legislation in force does not allow the automatic establishment of a special protection measure”DGASPC representatives pointed out in a press release.
However, in the context of “the death of four children in the same family”the institution handles the case “as a possible risk situation“, which led to the initiation of additional evaluations.
“Following the assessment of the situation and to the extent that it can be concluded that there is an imminent risk situation for the child in the family, steps will be takenin emergency procedure, for the judicial establishment of the special protection measure”DGASPC Sibiu also specified.
The checks have already started, and after their completion, the authorities will act according to the legislation in force on child protection.
