The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, said on Friday, for Digi24, that state institutions must limit minors' access to content on social networks that obviously incites violence or antisocial behavior.
“I am in favor of a certain rigorous evaluation of the content that minors can access on social networks, in the sense that we must try to limit this access to that content that is clearly inciting violence or antisocial behavior,” said Marinescu.
“There are often very serious situations in which minors are engaged in committing crimes or become victims of crimes, unfortunately sometimes also committed by minors,” said the Minister of Justice.
A European Commission investigation has revealed how TikTok has built a “digital trap” through features that override users' psychological barriers, deliberately ignoring the negative impact on mental health.
What the European Commission says about TikTok
Features such as infinite scrolling, autoplay and constant push notifications are not simple design choices, but mechanisms that force the user's brain to go into “autopilot mode”, according to the European Commission's preliminary investigation.
The European executive points out that TikTok uses a “variable reward” system similar to gambling, designed specifically to feed the compulsive need to consume new content.
TikTok is accused of ignoring important indicators of compulsive use, such as the amount of time minors spend on the platform at night or the frequency with which users open the app. Scientific research cited in the investigation shows that this behavior “can lead to compulsive behavior and reduce users' self-control.”
