The delivery of water to the towns of Prahova and Dâmbovița could start on Monday, December 8, but the distribution will not be simultaneous, and the Public Health Directorate (DSP) will determine when the water can be declared potable, explained the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, on Thursday evening, on Digi24.
“I am very cautious in saying that all the localities will receive. Starting from Monday, all the authorities give assurances, on Monday the treated water will be able to start flowing. But, be careful, it will gradually reach all the localities. We must not forget the stage of checking all conditions for potability, DSP will have the last word. He will have to establish very clearly what the optimal criteria are”, said Diana Buzoianu.
“All the information the office receives is that we fit into this calendar. No one from the national level can go and say on their behalf whether the stages have been completed. These people have a responsibility,” continued the Minister of the Environment.
Domestic water cannot be delivered earlier without notice: “I can't say”
Referring to the possibility of providing at least domestic water before the water becomes potable, the relevant minister specified that the decision belongs exclusively to DSP.
“The answer: DSP. They are the experts, they will say. I can't say if they can release domestic water sooner,” said the Minister of the Environment.
“I can't tell if it was intentional or careless”
Asked if the local authorities hid the risks, given that they had given assurances that there were no problems, Buzoianu said that he could not rule out negligence.
“All the information I received said very clearly that there is no such risk. I don't know if they did it with bad intentions. I can't figure out if it was on purpose or with so much negligence. There are documents that say there was a possibility to increase the level of water turbidity”, explained Diana Buzoianu.
Over 100,000 people, without water for almost a week
More than 100,000 people from Prahova and Dâmboviţa do not receive water in the centralized system since Friday, after the water in the Paltinu dam rose by approximately 12 meters, and it still cannot be properly treated to become drinkable.
It is about the localities of Câmpina, Breaza, Băicoi, Adunaţi, Poiana Câmpina, Şotrile, Băneşti, Brebu, Telega, Vărbilău, Aluniş and partially Floreşti commune from Prahova county, as well as the Moreni locality from Dâmbovița.
People receive drinking and household water from tankers brought by the fire brigade and authorities, and on Sunday the decision was made that they will receive 200,000 liters of water from the state reserve.
