Estonia partially restricted movement across the border with the Russian Federation

Traffic through the Luhamaa and Koidula border checkpoints will be restricted for three months. The reason is said to be “border incidents” on the part of the Russian Federation.

Closing checkpoints at night will allow more resources to be allocated to border security, the Estonian government said. During the daytime, checkpoints will be open for 12 hours, the government communications bureau reports.

“From February 24, we will reduce the opening hours of border crossings by three months and close them at night so that we can more closely monitor the situation on other parts of the border,” Prime Minister Kristen Michal said.
