A resident of Turukhansk received a suspended sentence for catching a tugnut by a net

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a 49-year-old resident of the Turukhansky district was condemned, who captured more than 3.5 thousand tugunas with a net.
The prosecutor’s office explained that a man working as a stake went fishing on a friend’s boat. He took a cutting net as an instrument of fishing, fishing with which is prohibited. In one night, he managed to catch 3.5 thousand individuals of the tugnut for 880 thousand rubles.
The man planned to sell fish, but did not have time – law enforcement officers caught him.
The court found the man guilty of illegal catching aquatic biological resources (part 3 of article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to conditional imprisonment for 1 year.
But the prosecutor's office considered the verdict too soft and appealed him. The prosecutor also filed a lawsuit in the court to recover from convicted damage caused by aquatic biological resources.
