British serial killer sentenced to life for murdering a girl in 1999. He later killed five other women

British serial killer Steve Wright, 67, was given a life sentence for killing 17-year-old Victoria Hall in 1999. The judge in the case told him he would die in prison as he was already serving time for the murders of five more women in 2006.

The trial took place on Friday at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales. The trial judge, Bennathan, imposed a 40-year sentence.

However, he told the man that he would die in prison. “All of the aggravating circumstances I listed would have resulted, under the old rules, in a minimum sentence of over 40 years, but given that you pleaded guilty, 40 years is the sentence I will impose. Even if this was your only life sentence, given your danger and age, it is very unlikely that you will ever be released. Given the sentence that has been imposed for your other horrific crimes, I'm pretty sure you'll die in prison.” the judge told the defendant Steve Wright, according to Sky News.

The 67-year-old Briton is already serving a life sentence for killing five other women. The man showed no emotion when the sentence was handed down and was taken away, later behind bars.

The convictions of the man

Wright was jailed for nine years for the attempted abduction of Emily Doherty, who was abducted by a man in 1999 as she walked home from a club. The individual chased her with the car, and she had to run and knock on doors to ask for help.

The second sentence, of 12 years, was given for the kidnapping of Victoria Hall, a 17-year-old teenager, whom the man abducted as she was also returning from a club. The teenager's lifeless body was found in a ditch five days later, about 40 kilometers from where she was last seen.

To these is added the sentence received for the murder of the young woman. The sentences run concurrently, so it's life imprisonment, with a minimum of 40 years in total.

According to the judge's statements, the sentence does not change Wright's fate in any way, because he is already serving a life sentence for the five murders he committed in 2006.

He killed five prostitutes whom he hanged in a neighborhood in the small town of Ipswich. Their bodies were found in rural areas, as well as that of the 17-year-old girl, notes the cited source.
