Robert Negoiță, reaction after the DNA searches: “I didn't do my brother any favors, on the contrary. He initially opposed it, because the road confused him”

The mayor of District 3, Robert Negoiță, said on Thursday, February 5, that he never built road infrastructure with public money for his brother, Ionuț Negoiță, but only public roads. The reaction comes in the context of new searches carried out by DNA prosecutors at the City Hall headquarters and at the mayor's residence, in a case of abuse of office that directly targets Robert Negoiță.

Robert Negoiță told the journalists present at the Sector 3 City Hall that the bureaucratic blockage at the Capital City Hall prevented him from doing the expropriations legally, so he built the road directly.

“We have not been able to expropriate because of the blockages, although we have constant requests from citizens, the area being extremely congested.

The legal version would have been: urban planning documentation, expropriations and only then construction. However, since all documentation has been blocked at the General City Hall for over four years, we cannot do our work legally, including the expropriation part.

I built no public road for my brother. We built public roads for Sector 3, free to be used by any citizen. By not paying compensation to a private owner, I did him a disservice. (…) We were prevented by the Capital City Hall from making all the necessary documents. When you build public utilities, it's normal to finance them with public money”, the mayor claimed.

Also, the mayor adds that his brother didn't want this road and is really “confused” by it, so it wouldn't be a favor.

“I repeat! The owner does not need that road at all. All I know is that that road is very necessary. (…) This hypothesis is aberrant, because I asked the owner's permission. He initially objected…”.

About the streets built over gas mains, Robert Negoiță stated that “there is an ongoing investigation” and that it is available to the authorities for clarification.

Searches at the District 3 City Hall

On Thursday, February 5, DNA prosecutors descended on the District 3 City Hall, as well as on the home of Mayor Robert Negoiță, according to Adevărul sources. The searches are part of a case of abuse of office that directly targets the mayor, suspected by the prosecutors of having built a road for his brother, Ionuț Negoiță.

The authorities announced that 11 locations in Bucharest and Ilfov county are targeted. The investigation started from the Recorder's investigation.

According to an expert report obtained by the Recorder, 11 roads have been paved illegally in recent years in the east of the Capital, in the Brațării area, to serve the real estate complexes built in the last decade.

The representatives of Transgaz claim that the City Hall of Sector 3 carried out works to modernize the roads that intersect the company's pipelines without requesting or receiving the necessary approval, which is illegal and creates risks for the integrity of the pipelines.
