PKP PLK terminates the contract for the tunnel in Łódź. What's next with the investment?

The investor, i.e. PKP PLK, withdrew from the contract with the contractor for the construction of the cross-town tunnel in Łódź – the company's president, Piotr Wyborski, announced on Wednesday in Łódź. It was announced that a tender would be announced to complete the work as soon as possible.


The contractor of the investment was Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Dróg i Mostów (PBDiM) from Mińsk Mazowiecki.
The manager of the railway infrastructure in Poland and at the same time the investor, PKP PLK, explained that the decision to withdraw from the contract with the contractor was dictated by “the safety of residents, concern for real estate on the tunnel construction route and the need to ensure stable and professional implementation of an infrastructure project that is crucial for Łódź and the national railway system.”
It was announced that the inventory and security of the construction site would begin soon. It was added that a tender for the completion of the investment would be announced as soon as possible.
The contract for the construction of a cross-city tunnel in Łódź connecting the Łódź Fabryczna station with the Łódź Kaliska and Łódź Żabieniec stations was concluded in 2017, and the actual construction and drilling works began in August 2019. The investment was originally supposed to be completed in 2021.
However, since September 2024, work related to drilling it has been at a standstill, after the passage under al. On May 1, part of the tenement house directly above the tunnel collapsed.
In recent months, PKP PLK has been conducting mediations with the contractor with the aim of resuming the works and determining a new date for completing the investment. (PAP)
