Iași Polytechnic is facing with a major financial crisis. As a result, the leaders of the group from Copou started discussions for the transfer of control to the club.
Poli Iași entered insolvency in the summer, due to the club's debts. The team from Copou was relegated in 2025, after being defeated by Metaloglobus in the play-off.
1.2 million euros for a club that can receive 2 million euros annually from the local authorities
The amount requested is, according to the manager Florin Briaur, around the value of 1.2 million euros. The money is not requested for associates, but to cover some debts. If these arrears are not paid, Poli will not be able to request funding from the Iasi City Council this year.
In recent years, Politehnica has received generous sums from the Iași City Council, CL sources saying that the municipality of Iaşi is willing to continue helping the club, with around 2 million euros annually.
The polytechnic is insolvent
Apart from the mentioned 1.2 million euros, Politehnica still has a debt of about 4 million euros, which led the club to insolvency. The heads of the group from Iași are, however, optimistic that these arrears will be reduced after the approval of the insolvency plan and will have to be paid in several years.
Poli relies on the precedents of Dinamo, which paid 700,000 euros out of the 17.5 million euros due in the first insolvency, and 1.3 million euros out of over 8.5 million euros in the second, or CFR Cluj, where 5 million euros were paid out of the 20 million euros owed.
Who are the “patrons” of the Polytechnic now?
The Polytechnic Associates are now Florin Briaur (club manager), Dan Ștefan Cojocaru (vice-president), Cezar Honceriu (Child and Junior Center manager), Cristi Amironesei (coach of the club's women's teams) and Vlad Ciobanu (futsal referee).
The Board of Directors of the Polytechnic, formed by Cornel Șfaițer (president), Ilie Gheorghică, Honceriu, Amironesei and Ciobanu, is a decorative body now, the club being under the umbrella of the insolvency firm Capital Insol SPRL, the club's judicial administrator. Special administrator is Briaur.
Prunea, contradicted
Briaur also contradicted the information advanced yesterday by Florin Prunea at iamsport. The former goalkeeper had said that Poli would close in ten days and that the players had not been provided with meals. “We didn't take into account the option of not starting the championship at all, the team also had two meals a day, the training program is going on normally. We want to attract new people to the club.
Until then, we hope to be able to carry out our activity relying on the sponsors we have now and with the money that I am optimistic we will win following the TAS trial with Gheorghiță” said Briaur.
Iasi is bankrupt. In 10 days it closes. I also spoke with Tibi (no – Selymeș) yesterday, but he has nothing to do. They have no money for food. I understand that they are disbanding it and want to take it out of League 4. The lock is placed in a maximum of 10 days. Poli Iasi disappears altogether
