According to Kuleba, Darnitskaya CHPP served about 500 thousand people in Kyiv. Since the beginning of the heating season, the Russian Federation has already attacked it five times with ballistic missiles and drones.
“Today you are here after yesterday’s attack, when the enemy sent five ballistic missiles here, aimed clearly at the only thing that remained functioning here, this was the equipment that was focused on supplying heat to the population. This was done on the coldest night that was in Kyiv. The temperature at night reached -26 ° C. All this led to the fact that today, as you can see, the station is almost completely destroyed,” the Ukrainian minister told diplomats.
At the same time, Kuleba noted that the process of restoring the thermal power plant has already begun.
“We have two days to understand technically when and to what extent we will be able to restore the operation of this station. After this, we can make certain forecasts. Today it is still quite difficult to say anything,” he admitted.
As Kuleba pointed out, more than 20 Russian missiles have hit the Kyiv thermal power plant since the beginning of the heating season.
At the same time, the occupiers use ballistic missiles with shrapnel, which destroy heating mains and complicate restoration work.
Ukrainian authorities have made a request to partner countries to help with the necessary equipment.
“We need generators of various capacities, cogeneration plants, block-modular boiler houses. Precisely in order to help those people who are left without heat today,” Kuleba told the ambassadors.
He published on Facebook a photo of the damage at the Darnitskaya Thermal Power Plant.
