The Court of Appeal in Naples accepted the request of the Romanian authorities regarding the surrender of the Mocanu brothers, the Ministry of Justice informs in a press release. The decision of the Italian court is not final. Manele singer Dani Mocanu was definitively sentenced last year to 4 years in prison with execution, and his brother Ionuț Mocanu to 7 years in prison after they were involved in a fight in a gas station in Pitesti in August 2022.
Dani Mocanu and his brother have been under house arrest in Italy since November 13, where they were arrested after the final sentence was handed down by the Brașov Court of Appeal.
“The judgment handed down by the Italian court represents an important success of the Romanian judiciary, confirming the efficiency of international judicial cooperation in criminal matters and the good collaboration between the judicial authorities in Romania and those in the Italian Republic,” the competent ministry said.
The decision of the Naples Court of Appeal is not final, there is the possibility of an appeal to the supreme court in Italy, in accordance with the legislation in force.
“The Ministry of Justice will continue to monitor the evolution of the procedure and cooperate with the Italian authorities to complete the legal proceedings”, the Romanian authorities also sent.
For what Dani Mocanu received four years in prison
Dani Mocanu was convicted of attempted murder and disturbing public order and peace following a scandal that took place in August 2022 in a gas station in the municipality of Pitesti.
The scandal took place on the night of August 18 to 19, in a gas station in Pitesti. A call to 112 announced that several people were fighting, but when the police crews arrived, all those involved in the scandal had left.
Following the altercation, a man arrived at the hospital with serious head injuries. Following the investigation, it was established that the Mocanu brothers hit him with a crowbar.
