The Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, announces that he will try to find out directly what is happening at STB and why public transport in Bucharest ended up costing us 1.8 billion lei per year.

“You probably haven't heard in the last many years about a significant streamlining of the Bucharest Transport Company (STB). Neither have I. I asked the General Council to authorize me to do an evaluation, a kind of audit, so that we all know what is happening in the STB “black box”. Practically, I think we all need to know why public transport in Bucharest ended up costing us 1.8 billion lei per year. Let's know what's going on this amount is equivalent to the entire budget of the city of Brasov. Only PNL, USR and REPER voted for this to happen, the rest were against it, so the project failed”, says the mayor of the Capital, on Facebook, about the STB situation.

The mayor announces that he will try to find out for himself what is happening in STB.

“I have nothing to do, I'm rolling up my sleeves and I'll try to find out directly what happened and what's happening at STB through meetings with the management of STB, with ADI Public Transport Bucharest and with the management of PMB. I asked the management of STB and ADI TPBI to come by next Monday with a clear plan to reduce expenses and make the company's activity more efficient”announces the mayor of Bucharest.

Ciprian Ciucu specifies that, “if the plan is viable, he will submit this plan to the General Council and the Government and discuss it beforehand with the unions”.

“Together we must avoid insolvency and improve public transport conditions for Bucharest residents! I will oversee STB's activity. There will be no more discussions about rate increases until we have this plan clearly adopted. Discussions about the elimination of cost-generating freebies (such as VAT and which have accumulated and reached astronomical sums, including from not using subscriptions) are pointless at this moment. Vulnerable groups will be protected. I came to make reforms. Transparent, reasoned. Let's see if the General Council will like them too. Or…”Ciucu writes in the post.
