On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced that India which have become heavily dependent on Russian oil supplies since the beginning of the full-scale war with Ukraine almost four years ago, agreed to give up purchasing this raw material from Moscow.
In return, Washington promised to reduce tariffs on selected Indian goods from 25 to 18 percent, and India – as Trump announced – declared that it would reduce its own tariffs and trade barriers to zero, as well as purchase raw materials, technologies and other products worth USD 500 billion from the US.
Additionally, a White House representative notified AFP on Monday that the additional 25 percent tariff that Trump imposed on India for purchasing Russian oil in August 2025 would also be eliminated.
After talks with Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Monday that he was “satisfied” with the tariff reduction, but did not mention the issue of fuel supplies.
