The famous American singer Cher gave a disastrous moment on the stage of the Grammy awards, writes the British newspaper Daily Mail. The singer left the stage prematurely and then announced the late singer Luther Vandross as the winner instead of Kendrick Lamar.
Cher initially took to the stage to accept her own lifetime achievement award, then left only to be called back by host Trevor Noah as she was also scheduled to present the album of the year award for Lamar and SZA's Luther.
While presenting the award, however, Cher, 79, managed to spoil the moment with a gaffe that had many laughing.
He first said, “And the Grammys go to…” then paused, looking straight ahead, before saying, “Oh! They told me it was going to be on prompter.”
Once he realized he had to open the envelope in his hand, he did so, read it, and excitedly declared the winner: “Luther Gandross [sic]!”.
Lamar, 38, laughed in amusement when Cher mentioned Vandross – who died 20 years ago – but understood she was referring to his song and took to the stage.
