Minister of Justice, Attorney General Waldemar Żurek confirmed to PAP that he agreed to waive his immunity and accept a fine in connection with proceedings for violating road traffic regulations. – There are no sacred cows; this also applies to me – added Żurek.

It concerns a video recording published at the end of January from one of the Internet programs, during which the head of MS, Waldemar Żurek, was driving the car while talking to a journalist. The police investigated whether the minister broke traffic regulations by not giving way to a pedestrian at a crossing.
On Monday morning, the Małopolska police announced on the X platform that police officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Krakow determined that an offense had been committed in the case, and Minister Żurek agreed to waive his immunity and accept a fine.

In an interview with PAP, the head of the Ministry of Justice confirmed the information from the Małopolska police. – There are no sacred cows. This also applies to me, said the minister. He added that everyone makes mistakes – “it is important to reflect and say sorry.” – Public figures should set an example of behavior in such situations – emphasized Żurek.
The police previously informed that if a driver is found not to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, he or she may face a fine of PLN 1,500 and 15 penalty points.
Referring to the case at the end of January, Żurek wrote on the X platform that road safety rules apply to everyone. “However, the final assessment rests with the police. We are all equal before the law. If an offense has occurred, I do not shirk responsibility,” he wrote then.
In Monday's entry on the X platform, the Małopolska police announced that the case regarding the minister would be finalized on Saturday. (PAP)
