Liviu Muruțan, the president of ASA Târgu Mureș, provided details about the team's situation, from the training program to transfers and the process in which Unirii Ungheni's place in the second league was contested.

In the summer of 2025, AFC ASA Târgu Mureș, a club established in 2021, made a leap of two leagues, from League 4 to League 2, after FRF approved the assignment sports activity and the place in the second league from CS Unirea Ungheni 2018 at the club from Târgmures.

But the story did not end there. The decision by which the Ungheni Local Council voted for the assignment was challenged by the Mureș Prefecture in court, in administrative litigation, i.e. the type of litigation in which the court checks whether an act issued by a public authority complies with the law.

The decision, made in December, was favorable to the City Council and the clubs involved, so ASA Târgu Mureș will continue in the second tierwhere they are performing beyond expectations, taking 4th place with 4 rounds remaining in the regular season.

Liviu Muruțan, the president of ASA Târgu Mureș, detailed, giving news about the team's current situation, from the training program to the transfers made. ASA managed to bring names like Ciprian Biceanu, George Ganea, Raul Rotund and Robert Filip this winter.

On Tuesday, February 3, Eusebiu Tudor and his players will leave for Antalya, for a training camp before the resumption of the championship.

The latest news from ASA Târgu Mureș: winning the case in the key process

– Departure to Antalya is coming. Have you scheduled any friendlies, apart from the one scheduled for February 5, with Epicentr Kamyanets?
– For now, he is the only signed friendly. We are in discussions with other teams, but concretely only that one is.

– How did the internal preparation go?
– From this point of view I was OK, I had two weeks of intensive training in the country, a training camp. The boys stayed together, with two practices a day and a few warm-up matches. The situation in the team is good, the energy is positive, everyone wants us to do a good job and get good results.

– You also attracted attention through the transfer campaign you carried out, with so many players with experience in the first league: Biceanu, Ganea, Robert Filip, plus Rotund, a promising youngster…
– Yes, fortunately things aligned so that we could bring in valuable, experienced players who were active in the first league. We hope he will prove it on the pitch in the official games and help so that we get the results we want.

– Do you have any more surprises in store for Mr. Eusebiu Tudor?
– Not for now, but surely if the opportunity arises, if we have the opportunity to bring reinforcements, we will certainly do it.

– Considering the transfers made, I think that the objective can only be the play-off, then a ranking as high as possible, right?
– We want to go as high as possible, but we know it's hard and we are reserved to make grand claims. Definitely, if things are going to be such that we can get something more, we will access and do whatever is necessary for it.

– Last summer you did one appeal to businessmen from the city, to come and support the team. What is the financial situation of the team now?
– From the point of view of the local authorities, the situation is the same, in the sense that we did not receive financing from public money, no support of this kind. I went through a trial, in court. The Local Council decision by which the League 2 place was ceded from Unirea Ungheni was challenged in an administrative dispute by the Mureș County Prefecture. The process was completed in mid-December, and in 2025 it was too short to be able to benefit from any kind of funding from the local authorities. But we want to achieve this in 2026. We hope they will respond positively, we will make requests and continue to call them to join us.

– To understand that you won the case in that trial.
– But, the Association won. This confirms that the approach was done legally, there was no problem from a legal point of view.

– And this decision provides the legal framework for the team to be financed, right?
– Exactly. And it was questioned whether the place in League 2 would remain ceded to ASA or would return to Unirea Ungheni. That's what they attacked, but things have been proven and now there are no doubts.

The results of ASA Târgu Mureș this winter:

  • 1-1 with CSC Şelimbăr (League 2, 16th place)

  • 4-0 with KSE Târgu Secuiesc (League 3, 2nd place in Series 2)

  • 6-2 with Alba Iulia University (League 3, 9th place in Series 7)
