Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that resolving the territorial issue in negotiations with Russia is impossible without a personal meeting with Vladimir Putin, reports The Moscow Times on Sunday.
“Without direct contact at the leadership level, it will be impossible to reach an agreement on territorial issues,” Zelenskiy said in an interview with Czech Radio.
He added that Ukraine remains open to negotiations involving Russia and the United States and insists on the need for Europe's presence at key stages of consultations.
The Ukrainian head of state also noted that Kiev is counting on security guarantees from the United States and the EU, as well as progress towards EU membership. These elements are part of a 20-point plan to end the war, which includes recovery measures, Zelenskiy stressed.
Earlier, Zelenskiy said he would not meet Putin either in Moscow or in Belarus, a country with strong ties to the Kremlin.
“I invite him publicly to Kiev, if he dares, of course,” Zelensky said.
