Sebastien Lecornu started his second term as Prime Minister of France on Saturday in an atmosphere of uncertainty, having to choose a new cabinet and present the countries of the countries by Monday, the deadline, while the political rivals promise to overturn his government, notes Reuters.

French President Emmanuel Macron again named his supporter loyal on Friday evening, just after Lecornu had resigned, saying that there is no possibility to form a government capable of adopting a reduced budget for 2026 in a deeply divided parliament.

The 27 days spent by Lecornu in office transformed him into the shortest prime minister in the modern history of France and there is no guarantee that he will resist more this time.

Macron's decision to call Lecornu again angered some of his most fierce opponents, who claimed that the only way out of the most serious political crisis in France is for the president to convene early legislative elections.

The left, far-right and far-right parties said they will vote for Lecorn's dismissal, leaving him addicted to socialists, whose leaders have not revealed their plans so far.

Lecornu works a counter -terror

Until Monday, he must present a draft law on the budget – first of the cabinet, then, on the same day, to the Parliament. This means that, at least, the ministers responsible for finance, budget and social security must be appointed until then.

Neither the Élysée Palace, nor the office of Lecornu, Matignon, gave immediate indications about the moment he could appoint his office or who could be part of it.

In a post on X Friday, Lecornu said that anyone who will join his government will have to give up personal ambitions to succeed Macron in 2027, a competition that has generated instability in weak minority governments and in the divided legislature of France. He promised a cabinet of “renewal and diversity”.

Lecornu did not reveal any details about the content of the project, but said after resignation that the budget deficit should be reduced to 4.7-5% of GDP next year, a difference greater than the 4.6% targeted by its predecessor. The deficit is estimated at 5.4% this year.

It remains to be seen what will do about the repeal of Macron's pensions reform and the introduction of a billionaire tax-two measures that the socialists have imposed as a price to support the weak minority government.
