The main party in Kosovo, led by interim prime minister Albin Kurti, won the legislative elections of December 28, the electoral authorities confirmed on Saturday, after a complete recount, informs AFP, taken over by Agerpres.
The Central Electoral Commission announced that Kurti's party, Vetevendosje (VV), obtained 51.1% of the votes, following the final certification.
The full recount of the votes, as well as a criminal investigation, were ordered after irregularities were discovered that would have affected approximately 70,000 ballots. Last week, a prosecutor announced that more than 100 people were arrested on suspicion of falsifying election results.
Electoral authorities last week ordered a full recount of the votes, but claimed that vote manipulation targeted individual candidates from certain parties.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti's party, Vetevendosje, or Self-Determination, failed to form a government even though it came first in the February 2025 poll, leading to months of political crisis and the triggering of the December election exercise.
There are fears that the recount will delay the formation of the new parliament and government, thereby prolonging the political crisis. Kosovo still does not have a budget for 2026, and if lawmakers miss the March deadline to elect a new president, a new vote will have to be held.
