As Trump announced when signing the executive order in the Oval Office, the event is to take place on August 21-23 and will be free for spectators. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said it would be the first race on Washington's streets since 1801, when then-President Thomas Jefferson organized horse races there.
The race in the capital is to be one of a series of sports events as part of this year's celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence. Earlier, Trump also announced that the UFC mixed martial arts gala would be held on the White House grounds in June. There will also be the so-called The Patriot Games will feature the top two high school athletes from each state in America.
