The Kremlin announced how long Trump asked Putin to delay strikes on Ukraine's energy sector

“President Trump has asked President Putin to refrain from launching strikes on Kyiv for a week until February 1 in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations,” he said.

It is not clear from Peskov’s response whether Putin agreed with Trump’s proposal and what kind of strikes are being discussed.

“I have nothing to add in detail to what has already been said. I want to emphasize once again that we are talking about creating favorable conditions for negotiations,” he said in response to clarifying questions.

As of the morning of January 30, Putin had not publicly confirmed the stop of attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, CNN noted.

Context

On January 29, Trump said that he personally asked illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Ukraine for a week due to extreme frosts. According to Trump, Putin allegedly “agreed to do this.”

According to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, “the teams talked about this in the Emirates” at a trilateral meeting USA, Russia and Ukraine. “We hope that agreements will be fulfilled“, he said in his last address.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Kyiv is allegedly seeking an “energy truce”, but it is unacceptable for Moscow. Before this, the head of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said that there was no official information about such an agreement, but such a decision “would not be in favor” of the Russian Federation.
