The eighth coach to be fired by Emma Răducanu. The athlete, completely destabilized before the Transylvania Open

Emma Răducanu made another important change in her team. The British player, champion at the US Open in 2021, confirmed on Thursday, January 29, that she has ended her collaboration with Spanish coach Francis Roig.

Roig had joined Emma's staff at the end of the summer, just before the US Open 2025. At the New York tournament, Răducanu stopped in the third round, where she was defeated by Elena Rybakina. After that point, the season became difficult for the Briton, who also faced physical problems, failing to string together two consecutive victories until the end of the year.
The start of the new season did not bring the desired change
Răducanu reached the quarter-finals of the tournament in Hobart, but was eliminated by Taylah Preston, a player outside the world top 200, ranked 204 WTA.
“I thank him for the time we spent together. He was more than a coach for me and we had wonderful moments on the field. I am very grateful for everything you have taught me and everything I have shared!“, Răducanu said on social networks.
Roig coached Rafael Nadal and Matteo Berrettini
Emma Răducanu decided to end her collaboration with Francis Roig after only six months, this being the eighth coach with whom the British woman ended her collaboration. The split comes at an unexpected time, especially since the Spaniard was directly involved in the adjustments made to her game after Wimbledon and accompanied her to both the US Open and the Asian tournaments.
Roig, 57, is recognized for his vast experience gained during his 18 years with Rafael Nadal, during which the Spanish champion won 22 Grand Slam titles.
For the participation in the Transylvania Open, from Cluj, Emma Răducanu does not yet have a permanent coach. At this tournament, she will be assisted by Alexis Canter, who will enter the competition without a stable team. The tournament is scheduled between January 31 and February 7.
