Thus, the child's mother, Vasilache Eugenia, will serve a sentence of 28 years and 4 months in prison, and the victim's uncle and aunt, Vasilache Florin and Vasilache Elena Anamaria, were definitively sentenced to 18 years and 8 months in prison each, for complicity in qualified murder.
According to the decision of the Galati Court of Appeal, pronounced on January 29, 2026, the court decided to reject the appeals declared by the three defendants against the criminal sentence no. 196 of July 14, 2025 of the Galati Court. “Rejects, as unfounded, the appeals filed by the defendants Vasilache Eugenia, Vasilache Elena Anamaria and Vasilache Florin against criminal sentence no. 196/14.07.2025 of the Galati Court”it is stated in the decision of the Court of Appeal.
At the same time, the court maintained the pre-trial detention status of the defendant Vasilache Eugenia and ordered the deduction of the period of detention and pre-trial detention from the imposed sentence, starting from January 31, 2024 and until the date of the final decision. In the case of the other two defendants, the Court of Appeal found the legal termination of the judicial control measure.
In the first instance, the Galati Court held that the 9-year-old girl was subjected, over a long period, to repeated acts of extreme violence, being beaten, abused and burned with a stove lighter, the facts eventually leading to her death. The child's mother was sentenced to 20 years in prison for aggravated murder of a family member, with additional sentences for child abuse and domestic violence.
The judges ordered the sentences to be merged, applying a one-third increase to the total of the other sentences, resulting in a final sentence of 28 years and 4 months in prison. The court also prohibited the exercise of certain rights, including parental rights towards the woman's other two children, for a period of five years after the execution of the main sentence.
In the same case, the girl's uncle and aunt, who lived in the same apartment as the victim, were convicted of complicity in the qualified murder of a family member and complicity in ill-treatment of the minor.
On the civil side, the Galati Court admitted the action filed by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Galati, as the legal representative of the other two children of the defendant, as well as the action brought ex officio by the Public Ministry. The court jointly and severally ordered the three defendants to pay the sum of 150,000 lei for each of the two children, as moral damages.
