Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told the investors he met at the Victoria Palace on Thursday that the Government's main priorities for this year are the continuation of reducing the budget deficit to a level approaching 6%-6.2% of GDP, optimizing the state's operating expenses, maintaining government stability and putting the economy on a healthier footing, according to the statement sent by the Victoria Palace after the meeting.
The Prime Minister received at the Victoria Palace on Thursday a delegation made up of representatives from 13 international investment funds, coordinated by Bank of America.
“Investors emphasized that they appreciate the Government's reform measures to reduce the budget deficit and optimize spending and asked what are the economic and political prospects for next year,” the Government said.
Bolojan, about the coalition protocol
The liberal prime minister recalled that his position will be taken over next spring by the PSD, according to the protocol agreed by the parties in the coalition.
“We intend to respect this agreement. In recent years, things have not worked well because the politicians did not respect their agreements. It is difficult for our citizens to respect us, as long as we do not respect each other,” said Bolojan.
He said that “Romania has now had some lessons”.
“When you get rid of the deficits for years, the bill is quite high. I hope we all understood this, and I mean the politicians. In addition, Romania is not alone in the world. I am optimistic that no matter what happens after 2027, Romania has a strong enough architecture to move forward in the direction we started”, continued Ilie Bolojan.
The Prime Minister told the investors that he is optimistic about maintaining governmental stability and supporting the priorities assumed by the government, namely the absorption of European funds, the continuation of the optimization of public spending, the adoption of a package of simplification and debureaucratization that will help companies, supporting investments in the defense industry and technology transfer.
“Investors were also interested in the government's plans for fiscal and budgetary consolidation, a context in which the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that, in addition to the continuation of the reforms, an important role in this regard is played by the digitalization projects of ANAF and the attraction of the funds that Romania benefits from through PNRR and other European programs”, the Government's press release also states.
The government was represented at the meeting with investors by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, the head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, and the honorary adviser to the Prime Minister, Ionuț Dumitru.
