“As a general observation, the intensity with which different facts are blamed in the public space is never proportional to the facts,” President Nicușor Dan said on Wednesday, when asked if he asked Ionuț Moșteanu to resign following the scandal regarding his CV.

Nicușor Dan participated on Wednesday in the working lunch with the ambassadors of the European Union member states accredited in Romania. He was also asked by the journalists present at the event about the resignation of Ionuț Moșteanu. He resigned on November 28 as Minister of Defense after Libertatea reported on inaccuracies in his CV.

“For the moment, the decision is with the USR, according to the coalition protocol. They have consulted me regarding ministerial appointments before and I expect them to do so now as well. I spoke with Mr. Moșteanu and told him that the decision is up to his lordship. As a general observation, the intensity with which different facts are blamed in the public space is never proportional to the facts,” said the head of state.

Asked by the HotNews reporter if he was referring to the fact that Mr. Moșteanu's problems were not serious enough to generate a resignation, Nicușor Dan answered:

“I said, among other things, that I, as a natural person, have been saying for about five years that natural and legal persons have been favored with hundreds of millions or even billions of euros through PUZs from the Bucharest sector. I think that hundreds of millions of euros is more corrupt than a diploma.”

Regarding the fact that there has been no Defense Minister for a week, President Nicusor Dan said that “he is a responsible minister who is in charge”.

“I even had a discussion on a position that Romania should have in the European structures, on a specific issue, and a position on the economy, and I was told that the minister is on defense. No, no, there is no danger. It still happens in democracy, ministers leave, it takes 10 days, 15 days, another minister comes,” he added.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan appointed Radu Miruță, USR Minister of Economy, to take over the position of Defense Minister on an interim basis.
