Growing tomatoes in a small garden plot often becomes a difficult task. Owners of such beds strive to get a stable and abundant harvest without spending the whole summer caring for the plants. This issue is especially acute for those who do not have the opportunity to regularly be in the country. According to experts, there is a way out of the situation.
As noted by agricultural expert and breeder Viktor Semenov, one of the most successful options for limited space is considered to be a tomato variety “Bear Paw”. It combines high productivity with unpretentiousness, which makes it suitable for both beginning gardeners and experienced gardeners.
One of the key advantages of “Bear's Paw” is considered to be intensive fruiting: with proper care, up to 30 kilograms of fleshy and juicy fruits can be collected from one square meter.
The expert emphasizes that tomatoes of this variety are distinguished by their large size, rich taste and high juiciness. Due to these characteristics, they are most often used fresh – for salads and cold appetizers. In addition, the plants tolerate dry periods well and are resistant to common diseases, including late blight.
However, the variety also has its limitations. “Bear's paw” is sensitive to excessive moisture: with excessive watering, cracks may appear on the surface of the fruit, which reduces their presentation. Also, due to their large size, tomatoes are not suitable for whole-fruit canning – they do not retain their shape well and do not fit into standard jars.
Despite these features, for summer residents focused on obtaining a fresh harvest and a variety of summer dishes, the variety remains one of the most practical options. “Bear's Paw” is successfully grown both in greenhouses and in open ground, demonstrating high returns even with minimal time and effort.
