The mayor of Krasnoyarsk officially confirmed permission to build a cathedral on Strelka

January 29 11:20
The mayor of Krasnoyarsk Sergei Vereshchagin signed a document allowing the church to build a cathedral on Strelka.
He noted that this is a technical clause specifying the type of use of the land plot, which in fact has been in effect since 2016. Sergei Vereshchagin also instructed his subordinates to conduct an additional discussion of the project at the Town Planning Council.
“After all, we are talking about a landmark object and a central point of attraction for Krasnoyarsk residents and our guests. It is necessary to carefully approach the spatial characteristics and parameters of the structure. Dive into the details with the participation of all stakeholders, including architects and experts. The goal is to re-evaluate decisions. They must take into account the development of the embankment and its status as a favorite vacation spot for residents,” explained the head of the city.
Let us remind you that the temple on Strelka is called the restoration of historical justice – it should replace the main city cathedral, which was blown up in the mid-1930s (architect Konstantin Ton – author of the famous Cathedral of Christ the Savior).

In 2012, the site for construction on Strelka was chosen by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' during a visit to Krasnoyarsk. A year later, the place was consecrated, and in 2017 the land was transferred to the church. In 2022, near the construction site, closer to the Peace Square museum complex, they planned to build a “small temple” – a wooden church. It will be part of the complex of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Construction started a year later, in February 2023. The temple is still not open; according to the latest data, a heating system with heated floors is being installed in it.
But not everyone accepted the construction of the temple on Strelka. The townspeople proposed moving the construction site from the embankment, which is a favorite place for walks, but then-Metropolitan Panteleimon called the demands to hold a citywide referendum a provocation.
