The Cenai murder. What Nicușor Dan says about the 13-year-old teenager who is not criminally responsible
President Nicușor Dan commented, on Digi24, about the case of the crime in Cenei, from Timiș, where two 15-year-olds and one 13-year-old killed another 15-year-old boy. The head of state described the crime as “absolutely regrettable”, stressing that the phenomenon is fueled by two general problems affecting young people: drug use and lack of belonging to a community.
The President commented on the situation of the 13-year-old minor involved in the Cenei crime
“Of course it is something absolutely regrettable. However, Romania is not unique, such phenomena also happen in other countries. For young people of this age there are two general problems: the issue of drugs and the lack of belonging to a community, as well as the lack of natural contact between generations – parents and children. For each of these problems, we must have, as a society, an answer as appropriate as possible“, declared Nicușor Dan.
Asked about the situation of the 13-year-old minor, who allegedly planned the crime, but is not criminally responsible because of his age, the president considered that “it is an isolated case and we do not have a phenomenon for this age category“. He avoided commenting on the age of criminal responsibility, indicating that “I'll let the experts decide here.”
At the same time, Nicușor Dan specified that the Romanian state is making “progress in provisionally protecting the victims, but here too there is much to optimize”.
Regarding prevention, the head of state emphasized that only “timid steps” are being taken regarding drug use and the lack of social activities for young people. “We need to find ways for teenagers to get away from the computer and integrate into societyhe said.
Specialists say that when a case of such gravity occurs, the whole society is responsible. This is because many times, in Romania, problem children are considered lost causes and few people bother with them, although they should benefit from the attention of all the factors involved in education, family, school, society, precisely to identify and solve the problems.
